It was 50 years ago today – 50th anniversary of the Beatles shooting ‘Paperback Writer’ & ‘Rain’ videos
I photographed the grounds of Chiswick House in West London almost 50 years to the day after the Beatles made pop music history with their videos for ‘Paperback Writer’ and ‘Rain’ shot on May 20 1966.
Some claim they mark the birth of the music video.
‘Paperback Writer’ & ‘Rain’ as the B-side was released in the US on 30 May 1966 and in the UK on 10 June 1966.
The video was first broadcast in black and white on BBC-TV’s Top of the Pops on 2 June1966.
Both tracks featured on the album ‘Revolver’.
As well as John, Paul, George and Ringo the film featured children playing on the Cedar tree – as they still do today.
You can see a rather poor quality version of one of the videos here
